Before going on any trip, check with your vet to see if they think your pet is healthy enough for travel, especially puppies and geriatric pets. At this age their immune systems are not as strong. Also, consider gathering tips for car sickness or take a test trip to determine if your pet suffers from car sickness. You don’t want your gifts and good clothes and car smelling of vomit!

Are you planning on restraining your pet in the car to keep them safe? There are many harnesses to choose from to fit different size pets and cars. If flying, confirm ahead of time that your pet fits in the space provided. All airline policies for pets are different, some have breed and weight restrictions. Make certain you have everything required for your specific airline. This could include vaccination records and health papers.

Make a list of everything you’ll need to bring when traveling with pets. Enough food to last the whole trip, treats, familiar toys and bedding to keep them comfortable, leashes, collar with ID tags, poop bags and car cleaning supplies to name some. Even some cats may need their specific litter to keep them feeling “normal” in a new place.
